Graduate Student Government Travel Award Program
The GSG has been successful in establishing a travel award program that has assisted many students with their expenses involved with conferences. This year we have been able to raise the amount that we will be able to award to graduate students over the course of the year.
The deadlines for the 2011-2012 school year have passed. Phase 1 was for travel between July 1, 2011 and March 31, 2012. A total of almost $16,000 was distributed between 144 student applicants. Phase 2 was for travel between April 1 and August 31, 2012.
We also encourage you to apply to the Vice President of Research for travel funding. Information about that process can be found here.
Please submit all questions concerning the GSG Travel Award to gsg@nau.edu or contact your GSG representative.
Variables that we consider when awarding the funds are:
The value of the presentation to the student and NAU.
Whether the conference was international, national, or regional.
Whether or not the student applied for other funding.
Quality of the application, including typos and missing information.
Whether the costs were reasonable and well-explained.
Historically, we have not funded applications missing information, using the wrong application form, or having extremely high costs that were not justified. Travel awards in the past have ranged from $75 to $250, depending upon available funds and the number of applicants.
